The Awesome Blossom football team (2-2 overall) couldn’t keep up with Mankato Loyola in a 48-38 loss in Mankato Friday.
BP outgained Loyola (3-1 overall) in total yards 473 yards to 244, but Loyola overcame that with some big plays.
“We had the ball most of the game on offense, but they had some big plays on special teams and on offense,” BP head coach Chad Gimbel said. “The bottom line is we just didn’t come to play on defense.”
BP fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter, but Matt Zellmer threw two TD passes in the second quarter and ran for another one to tie it up at 20 apiece at halftime. Zellmer finished with 39 carries for 163 yards and three touch downs, while completing 21-of-36 passes for 276 yards, three TDs, and an interception.
Cooper Nelson had six catches for 99 yards and a score for BP, Josh Toquam had two catches for 36 yards and a TD, and Justen Ingvalson ran 14 times for 70 yards and a TD for BP.
