Fifth-graders will get the chance to show off their math skills soon.
Fifth-grade students will compete in the annual Math Masters of Minnesota Competition on April 23 at Austin High School’s Ove Berven Gym. The individual competition will begin at 9 a.m., the team competition begins around 10:30 a.m., and awards will begin around 11:20 a.m.
Students have been practicing since the mid-winter of 2014 before and after school hours to prepare for this competition and work to improve their math skills. The purpose of the program is to challenge students and schools to use critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities and to give recognition for academic effort and achievement. Last year, over 5,000 students competed in 41 competitions state-wide. Math Masters of Minnesota Inc. has headquarters in Austin. To learn more about Math Masters please visit www.mathmastersmn.org.
