We were seated at tables adorned for fine dining. Soft dinner music was playing as we were served a meal fit for kings and queens. With a glance out the expanse of windows, one senses the grander of spring’s arrival. As the evening progressed, dance partners were drawn to the dance floor by the music of Reminsce, directed by Steve Krob.

One of our member couples, Peter Jacobs and Ann Hokanson presented a dance number to us, demonstrating what they will be performing for “Dancing With the Stars” on May 16th at the Albert Lea High School. This dance competition is a benefit for Habitat for Humanity. Peter and Ann received high acclaim from us and we wish them well on May 16. Tickets for this event may be purchased at Hy-Vee or by calling Habitat For Humanity Freeborn/Mower at 507-433-1349 for more information.

The committee for the May dance were LeRoy Koch and Mary Walcott-chairman, Brenda and Harry Willmott, Anne Hokanson and Peter Jacobs, Kelsey Field and Michael Walker and Darlene and Robert Erickson.

The June 2 dance is an open invitation to all who have been looking for a place to swing your partner to the music of the Austin Big Band, live. Come expecting a good time. It’s free. Dance will be at the Austin Country Club from 8 to 10 p.m. Call John and Marge Murack to let them know you are coming at 507-433-1590.

 Golden Age Club

Lucille Stratton conducted the meeting of the Golden Age Club due to Everett DeYoung’s absence.

Hazel Baldner read a reading due to Elaine Reynold’s absence. It was titled “A Gift from God.” We need to think about this — every day is special and a gift from God.

The secretary report was read by Sylvia Ginder. Ruth Van Hooser reported a balance of $639.40 in the treasurer’s account.

Marge Rolfson served a delicious strawberry dessert for coffee time. There was no new or old business. May birthdays to be celebrated by Jen Moeykens, Anita Ulwelling, Sharon Hunter, Joris Kyllo and Wayne Freitag. Dave and Elvina Solomonson will celebrate their anniversary. Sunshine Lady sent cards to these members: Sympathy card to Bea Callahan and Eddie Hall, anniversary card to Very and Irma Mueller and get well card to Eleanor Augustin.

We welcome back our friends who were south to avoid our Minnesota winter. Anybody 55 or older is welcome to join our club.
