Austin police shut down a hip-hop concert at Bandshell Community Park Wednesday after several noise complaints and reports of a fight.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said the event, which featured local hip-hop acts including XVO, KOA and C-Flo, was shut down at about 8:30 p.m. after the event supervisor contacted the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Concert organizers had told parks and rec employees the concert would feature Christian rock artists, according to Krueger. The event was postponed at one point due to rain, but organizers decided to continue at the last minute.
Yet nearby residents complained about the noise and swearing, which violated the city’s policy on hosting family-friendly events at the park. A reported fight had already broken up by the time police arrived.
One of the concert acts, KOA, was the group that hosted a concert at Lansing Corners in November 2012 where five people were shot and injured.
“Had parks and rec known who was playing, they would not have been allowed to perform,” Krueger said.
