MINNEAPOLIS — Worshippers at an African Methodist Episcopal Church in Minneapolis have gathered at a Sunday service to memorialize the nine people killed in a shooting last week at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Star Tribune reports prayers at St. Peter’s African Methodist Episcopal Church on Sunday called for love and forgiveness as well as action on racial division and injustice. A display picturing the nine people who died in the Wednesday shooting stood near the altar.

The Rev. Nazim Fakir told those in attendance that people “are coming and standing together” after the shooting, and that what he sees is “not trial but victory.”
