Daniel Bollingberg didn’t just get his first hit as an Austin Greyhound, he played a big role in Austin’s 9-3 win over the Hayfield Heat in Marcusen Park Friday night.
Bollingberg, who is in his first year with the Hounds, was hitless before Friday’s game but he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to ignite Austin’s offense from the No. 7 spot in the lineup.
“It was nice to get that [first hit] out of the way and any time I can hit with a wood bat, that’s a good sign,” Bollingberg said. “Hopefully I can start hitting better for the [Post 91] Legion team too.”
The Hounds (9-4 overall) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Tyler Leopold knocked in a run and Austin added two more runs on a Hayfield error. The Heat (8-7 overall) tied the game up at 3-3 when Charlie Hinsch and Travis Kauffman had RBIs in the third inning.
The Hounds took a 6-3 lead in the sixth when Alex Ciola doubled in a run and Jeremy Evans had an RBI single.
Bollingberg said he has enjoyed his time with the Hounds this summer.
“It’s fun playing with the older and more experienced guys,” he said. “They give you a lot of pointers and help you out. They really make you a better baseball player. They’ve all been great guys and they’ve helped me out whenever they can.”
