Greyhounds downed by Stewartville

The Austin Greyhounds hit a rough patch as they lost 9-4 to the Stewartville Sharks in Marcusen Park Wednesday.
The Hounds committed eight errors and they had just seven hits as the Sharks scored five unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game away. Austin (9-7 overall) was never able to get its bats going as it never had more than two hits in any inning.
“They’re energy level is a little bit down and it’s tough,” Austin manager Matt Cano said. “They’ve had quite a few games in a row and it’s going to go through Saturday. It’s part of maturing and part of trying to get mentally strong.”
Steven Clennon took the loss for the Hounds as he allowed two earned runs in six innings. He struck out five.
“Steven Clennon threw well, but a lot of those errors behind him really killed us and that was really the story of the game,” Cano said.
Cano said the Hounds have to be ready to play every game, no matter what the circumstances are.
“Hopefully it was a learning experience that it doesn’t matter who you’re playing,” Cano said. “You’ve got to be ready to pitch, you’ve got to be ready to field and you’ve got to be ready to hit.”
