Ann M. Pickering, 93

Ann M. Pickering, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

Anna Marie Whalen was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to George and Ruanna (Metz) Whalen. She grew up in Pontiac, Michigan, where she attended Pontiac Central School. Ann was employed by Pontiac Motors as a bookkeeper.

On June 16, 1951, she was united in marriage to George Pickering in Pontiac and enjoyed living on her dairy farm. George passed away in 1979. Ann moved to Austin in 1991, where she became a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Some of her favorite pastimes included quilting, baking, cooking and bird watching. In her younger years she enjoyed golf. She especially liked getting together with her sewing group twice a month. Ann will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ann is survived by her daughter Ruth Pickering of Austin, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Ruanna Whalen, her husband George Pickering, and her son George.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials can be directed to the Mower County Humane Society or to recipient of donor’s choice.
