Power has been restored to most Xcel Energy customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin after storms last week left about 250,000 customers without electricity.
As of Monday morning, outages were still affecting about 2,500 customers — 2,100 of which were in the western Twin Cities metro, said Xcel Energy spokeswoman Patti Nystuen.
Storms moving through Minnesota late Friday and early Saturday brought lightning and strong winds — including a tornado near Watertown, Minn. — that shut off the lights for about 20 percent of Xcel Energy customers in Minnesota.
“We had a lot of downed power lines because of fallen branches and fallen trees, and that did significant damage to our system,” Nystuen said.
