Sylvia M. Plunkett, 91, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at Prairie Manor Care Center.
Sylvia was born on March 21, 1924, in Carroll, Iowa, to Matthew and Emogene (Otto) Loew. She attended school in Iowa and worked for School District 756 as a school cook for many years. After her retirement, she worked for Steele County Public Health for 13 years as a home health aide. On Jan. 16, 1943, she was married to Frank Plunkett in Osage, Iowa, and the couple moved to Blooming Prairie. To this union eight children were born. Frank passed away on July 5, 1991. Sylvia married Alvin Christianson on Dec. 27, 1998. Alvin passed away on March 31, 2004.
Survivors include her children, James (Lois) Plunkett of Weston, Wisconsin, Ted (Diane) Plunkett of Askov, Minnesota, Dorothy (Dick) Green of Blooming Prairie, Russell (Jackie) Plunkett of Woodbury, Minnesota, Ann (Tony) Chirikos, of Boulder, Colorado, Mary Braaten of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Kenneth (Gail) Plunkett of Blooming Prairie, and Dean (Nancy) Plunkett of Faribault, Minnesota; 25 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers and five sisters; and many wonderful nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Frank and Alvin; three sisters; son-in-law Bob Braaten and two great-grandchildren, Jordan Ressler and Kylie Mae Coughlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church with Father Thomas Niehaus officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 20, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, concluding with a prayer service, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at St. Columbanus Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to Prairie Manor or donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home.
