The Austin man who shot 39-year-old Tyrone Maddox last September was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison.
A jury found Tyrone Price, 28, guilty of first- and second-degree attempted murder, as well as first-degree assault, on June 15.
Price shot Maddox at the 400 block of Fourth Street Southeast in Austin on Sept. 16, 2014. Witnesses reported Maddox yelling but couldn’t identify a shooter, though one witness told police a silver four-door car left the area shortly after the shooting.
Police found Price getting into his silver Jaguar in front of his home at the 800 block of Fifth Avenue Northeast soon after, according to a court complaint. Police saw a .357 caliber bullet sitting on top of insulation in an unfinished wall inside Price’s garage, where they later found several more bullets and a Ruger LCR .357 magnum revolver.
Price told police he had run several errands throughout the day and had stopped at home to use the bathroom. He denied being involved in the shooting or owning the gun and also told police someone must have put the gun inside his garage wall, according to the complaint.
However, Price asked several times about prison terms related to an attempted murder charge.
He also refused to provide a DNA sample.
