A 41-year-old Austin man was arrested early Wednesday after he allegedly committed a hit and run.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said witnesses told police the suspect smashed into an older pickup truck near the 1600 block of East Oakland Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers later found the suspect’s car, a maroon Chevy Impala, in a driveway near 10th Street and First Avenue Northeast. The Impala appeared to have suffered heavy damage, according to Krueger.

The suspect was arrested after he refused a DWI test. He was taken to the Mower County jail pending formal charges.
