Violet Marie (Diggins) Hansen, 96, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

She was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Sept. 19, 1918, to William and Margaret (Wilkerson) Diggins. Violet grew up in Sioux Falls attending school until the eighth grade. She married Howard R. Hansen on Oct. 29, 1937. To this union, three children were born: Sharon, George, and Dennis. They raised their family in Austin, Minnesota.

Violet enjoyed baking, playing cards, bingo and watching the Twins. She was president of the Golden Age Club and a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge. Violet will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family, her wonderful baking, and her love for children.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Hansen; an infant daughter; daughter Sharon Johannsen; sister Helena; sisters and brothers-in-law: Marcella “Arch” (Cletus) Heimer and Patricia (Alfred) Puettmann; brother and sister-in-law: Albert (Arlene) Diggins, and Jimmy Diggins.

Violet is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: George (Kathy) Hansen, Littleton, Colorado; Dennis (Debra) Hansen, Mantorville, Minnesota; son-in-law Gerald Johannsen, Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren: Tim (Lou) Hansen, Wendy Parker, Kris Black, Kari (Nick) Bednarczyk, Marc (Kim) Johannsen, and Susan (Phil) Tate; great-grandchildren: Jared, Chance, Athena, Brooklyn, Tony, Jade, Nathan, Kali, Alex, Bennett, Andrew, Caitlin, Eric, Bryan, and Brad; sisters and brother-in-law: Marion “Penny” Kvam and Margaret (Roger) Jennings; brother Bob Diggins; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Raul Silva and Deacon Peter Bednarczyk officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. Memorials are preferred.
