The River Rats Car Club of Austin is bringing the past to St. Marks Living this weekend.
River Rats members are bringing their cars to St. Marks for a small car show at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, where there will also be a get-together and picnic for residents and a meet-and-greet with the club members.
“They get to see old cars that they probably remember driving or seeing in that era, and it gets them out to enjoy the weather and see old cars,” River Rats President John DeVries said. “They don’t get out much so we just figured it would be nice to get out there and show them what our car club has to offer and do something nice for them.”
The River Rats held a show to raise money to help pay for veteran pavers in mid-August, where they raised about $3,000. DeVries said the money will go to those who want a paver but can’t afford it, and hopefully will help pay back some of the money spent on the pavers previously purchased.
The mini-car show is right after a larger car show the club is attending in Northwood, Iowa. This is the second car show the club has done.
DeVries said the members just want to try to do something nice for their community and are happy to do it for the residents at St. Marks.
“[We’re] just trying to do nice stuff for the community and show that there’s a car club in town that cares about the community,” DeVries added.
