Police are investigating a possible fight and stabbing reported last night, but they had few concrete details as of this morning.
According to Austin Police Lt. Dave McKichen, officers responded to the 1000 Block of First Avenue Northwest at about 8 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a possible fight with baseball bats. But most of the suspects had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. Officers spoke with witnesses who didn’t provide a lot of information, but they described the fight as a group of 20 to 60 people and four to eight vehicles, with baseball bats, knives and possibly hand guns, which officers couldn’t confirm.
One witness said they thought they saw someone get slashed with a knife, and McKichen said officers found a possible victim about an hour after the initial report. The victim, a minor, was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin and treated for a non-life threatening stab wound.
McKichen said it appears the suspects of the fight knew each other. Officers are still investigating the incident.
