Austin Police officers responded Thursday afternoon to a home in southeast Austin after receiving information about a large number of bikes being kept at a residence.
Police recovered between 20-25 bikes and bike parts scattered around the backyard of a home in the 400 block of Second Street SE. Many of the bikes had been stripped down or altered, making it difficult to identify them.
Police spoke to two 14-year-old boys, one of which lived at the residence, who said they had found the bikes abandoned either in a cul-de-sac in the 500 block of Second Street SE or along the river.
The boys claimed they owned nine of the bikes.
A woman living at the residence and mother of one of the juveniles said, when questioned, that some of the bikes were purchased by her or given to her son by a friend.
The bikes police have been able to identify have not come back as stolen and so far no other action has been taken.
