The Austin boys soccer team (4-1-1 overall, 1-1-1 Big Nine) allowed a late goal in a 3-2 loss at Winona (5-0 overall, 2-0 Big Nine) Thursday on the road.
The Packers tied the game at 2 with 17 minutes left when Henry Darling scored on an assist from Alex Klock. But Winona scored with five minutes left in the game to get the win.
The transition game hurt Austin.
“They didn’t pass as well as we did, but they took advantage of the times we didn’t have enough defenders back and their forward had an extra second or two to shoot,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said. “It was a battle back and forth and they came out on top.”
Winona scored the first goal of the game, before Jake Brehmer scored on a crossing pass from Henry Darling to tie it up at the half.
Ryan Rasell had nine saves for Austin. The Packers attempted 13 shots in the loss.
