A group of teens was threatened by a 35-year old Austin man with a knife and baton Friday.
According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers responded to the 500 Block of Sixth Avenue Southeast at about 10 p.m. Friday on a report of a disturbance.
Officers met with a victim between the ages of 11 and 15 who said a man approached the chain link fence on the property line where the victim and her friends were having a bonfire in the backyard. She told officers he started calling the group racial slurs and profanities. The victim asked the suspect to leave, and he appeared to be walking to his bike when he turned back and took out an expandable baton.
As he approached the group, the victim ran to the home and yelled to her friends to do the same, and the man put away the baton and took out a knife. He stopped about 20 feet from her when he turned and went back to his bicycle and rode off.
The victim gave officers his description, and they found him at the 600 Block of 10th Drive Southeast. He initially denied being involved but later admitted to being involved, saying the group started it.
He was arrested for terroristic threats and charged with possessing a dangerous weapon.
