Fire damages reach $78K; Blaze destroys garage, ’12 Yukon Denali

A Thursday afternoon fire in southwest Austin destroyed a garage and a 2012 GMC Yukon Denali.

Around 1:45 p.m., a neighbor reported a garage was on fire at 804 Seventh Ave. SW. The garage was fully involved when Austin firefighters arrived. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes, according to Fire Chief Jim McCoy.

The blaze did an estimated $78,000 in damage — $30,000 for the structure and $48,000 for the Denali and the garage’s content, according to McCoy. No one was injured.

The fire in the detached garage did not spread to any other structures.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known, and the State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
