ST. PAUL — A top Senate Democrat says she’ll hold a hearing to investigate her colleague’s ties to an embattled nonprofit.

It would be just the latest ethics probe for Sen. Jeff Hayden, who resigned from his board role at Community Action Minneapolis. The organization shuttered last year after an audit found it misspent taxpayer dollars meant for heating assistance.

A complaint against Hayden stalled last year. But a court-appointed receiver discovered $3,400 in “improper” travel expenses filed by Hayden and his wife, who served as his designee.

Sen. Sandra Pappas told Minnesota Public Radio News Monday she’ll host another Ethics committee hearing. The date hasn’t been set.

Hayden did not immediately respond to a request for comment. His attorney says the couple’s expenses were justified.
