Man trying to break up fight struck during scuffle

Two people trying to stop a fight ended up as part of the scuffle on Sunday.

Officers responded to the 600 block First Avenue Northwest at about 2 a.m. Sunday to a report of a fight, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.

A 46-year-old man said he heard a ruckus outside of his residence and went to investigate. He told police he found two or three people, but the argument intensified.

Another man in a white shirt then showed up and tried to calm everyone down. The 46-year-old was reportedly hit with a steel downspout by the man in the white shirt.

The 46-year-old said he was jumped for no reason, but other witnesses said he punched the man in the white shirt first.

The 46-year-old was taken to Mayo Clinic Health Systems by Gold Cross.

Officers are still looking for the man in the white shirt. No arrests have been made.
