Will advice, digital TV clinics offered at senior center

One of the busiest places in Austin is the Mower County Senior Center.

Upcoming events for senior citizens:

Monday, Sept. 8: A will advice clinic will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the senior center.

Dave Forman, an Austin attorney, will meet privately with individuals to discuss power of attorney, estate planning and wills.

The free clinic is offered by the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services.

Wednesday, Sept. 10: A free seminar at 11:30 a.m. will explain the impact of digital television in February.

Thursday, Sept. 11: Another session in the new Caregiver Support Program will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the senior center.

Renee Kreter will present the agenda, which is the fifth session of six being offered.

Julie Gran will offer a respite provider training session 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 18, also at the senior center.

The training is targeted for volunteers and sponsored free of charge by the Mower County Senior Advisory Council.

Wednesday, Sept. 17: A defensive driving class will be held 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.

The cost is $16 for members and $19 for non-members.

The class is needed for an insurance discount.

Sunday, Sept. 21: An “all you can eat” Dad’s Belgian waffles fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior center.

Waffles, sausage links, assorted juices and coffee are on the menu.

Cost is $6 in advance and $5 for children’s ages 6-12 or $1 more at the door Sept. 21. Children under 6 will be served free of charge.

The fundraiser will be co-sponsored by Arc Mower County and the senior center.

Tuesday, Sept. 23: A seminar on consumer credit will be offered, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center.

A volunteer attorney for the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services will be present to answer questions.

The seminar will be offered free of charge.

Tuesday, Sept. 30: A skin cancer seminar will be offered, beginning 6:30 p.m. by Dr. Kathleen Hectorne, a dermatologist from Austin Medical Center.
