People get another chance to try curling

We have added another date to try curling for free. You will now have two opportunities to give this a try. Pick either date or come to both from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday or 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Packer Arena. League will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9 through Dec. 28 for those 16 and older. The cost to join is $75. Please register at the Park and Recreation office.
Adult Open Hockey is at Riverside Arena from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 4, 11 and 18. The cost is $6 per person, you must be at least in high school, no checking, no alcohol and a helmet is required. Goalies are free and must have full gear.
Public skating at Packer Arena will be held from 6:35 to 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and 18. The cost is $4 to skate and $1 to rent skates if you should need them. Family or single memberships are also available to purchase. The family membership for two is $70 with $5 for additional family members a single is $50.
Austin Youth Hockey will be holding a Try Hockey for free session from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Riverside Arena for ages 3 to 8. Mark your calendar and stop in to give it a try.
We will be offering a Learn to Play Hockey for kids ages 3 to 8 partnering with Austin Youth Hockey and the Austin Bruins beginning Nov. 11 through Dec. 16. You may register in our office through Nov. 6. The cost is $35.
Austin Youth Hockey will provide the necessary equipment, skates can be rented from us and you will need to provide a mouth guard and a stick.
5K walk/run
Mower Refreshed is hosting a Harvest 5K Walk/Run at 9 a.m. on Nov. 7. The event will begin and end at Todd Park’s Izaak Walton cabin. The entry fee for the event is $20 (early registration by Nov. 4 at the YMCA) or between 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. for $25 the day of the event. Please bring along a healthy food donation the day of the event. Registered participants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt, water bottle and a tote bag. All proceeds beyond the cost of the event and food donations will go directly to our county food shelves.
Flag football
Dome football anyone? We will offer Seven-Man Adult Flag Football starting Dec. 1. Players must be 18 as of June 1, 2015, with a roster limit of 20 players and games will not start before 6:30 p.m. There will be one official provided per game. Team entry is due by Nov. 23, 2015 which breaks down to $42 per person on a 10 player roster or $7 per week.
Soccer program
We will be combining our winter youth soccer program with Austin Youth Soccer’s dome soccer skills camps as we feel this will better benefit the participants. Cost for students in U6 to U9 is $30 and U10 to U11,$75. Those groups will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday’s on the following dates: Nov 28, 30; Dec 5,7,12,14,19 and 21. Baseball under the dome
Currently we are accepting registrations for a baseball pitching machine league to be held in the dome at Wescott Field. Participants that are 7 and 8-years-old will meet early evening on Mondays beginning Dec. 7 through Jan. 25. Participants, ages 9 and 10, will meet early evenings on Tuesdays beginning Dec. 8 through Jan. 26. We will offer this league to the 11 and 12-year-olds as well with a tentative night being Tuesdays. Class will not meet Dec. 22 through Jan. 2. The cost is $45 per participant; please sign up in the Park and Recreation office.
Austin Bruins
The Bruins’ next home game will be Friday, Nov. 6, when the team hosts Coulee Region. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the following sponsor locations; Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, Jim’s Marketplace and Games People Play or at the Box Office on game day.
