The Austin City Council unanimously approved a two-year agreement for Hormel Foods Corp.’s sanitary wastewater services with the city of Austin Monday, and it approved a similar three-year agreement with G&R Truck Wash.

The council approved new Individual Control Mechanism — or ICM — agreements that sets limitations and conditions to monitors wastewater output from Hormel and G&R, including things like flow, strength or water discharge, suspended solids, nitrogen and phosphorous.

Hormel’s new agreement, which lasts through Dec. 31, 2017, is mainly for the industrial wastewater treatment facility, but it includes a provision to divert usage to the domestic wastewater treatment facility for maintenance and other things.

In February, the council approved a new ICM agreement with Hormel after Public Works Director Steven Lang’s office discovered the meter is off slightly at the station where the flow is monitored.
