Two potential burglaries over the holiday weekend welcomed in 2016.

In the first incident, a pit bull stopped an intruder on Friday.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Second Avenue Northeast around 4:10 p.m. Friday to a burglary in progress, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. The victim reported he was home and his doors were unlocked, but he heard his dog bark and a commotion at the front door.

When he got there, he found his pit bull had bitten a man who had entered the home. The man backed out of the home, the dog let go and the man walked away. The victim reported the suspect may have been drunk as he was stumbling around and mumbling to himself that he “must be at the wrong house.”

When officers arrived, the suspect was gone. Searches of the area and at the hospital for dog bite victims proved negative.

The victim reported the suspect was a white male about 50 or 55 in age, with a rough-shaved white and grey mustache, wearing blue jeans and a denim jacket walking eastbound.

The victim’s dog was current on all shots.

A second possible burglary over the weekend left an iPhone and iPad missing from a home on the 800 block of 11th Avenue Southwest. According to Krueger, the victim ran to the gas station around 4 p.m. Friday and returned about 15 to 20 minutes later. The door to her home was ajar and her iPhone, worth about $500, and her iPad, worth about $400 and white with a pink case, were missing from the kitchen table.

The victim reported she normally locks her doors but did not since she would only be gone a few minutes.
