Scam calls claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Department are ringing throughout the state asking for money.

A report from the Sheriff’s Association said the “United Partners Outreach” is contacting citizens throughout the state and soliciting funds, according to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi. The calls claim to be from whatever county the victims live in. Amazi said no calls have been reported from Mower County as of Friday morning.

The group was told to cease and desist as they are not authorized to be making these calls, and Amazi said nobody knows where the funds are going.

“If you get one of these calls, hang up please,” she said.

Amazi said the Sheriff’s Department does not solicit over the phone, and any threats made for not contributing are a scam.
