A Friday dumpster fire was hot enough to melt siding on a garage, but the structure didn’t catch.
Police officers and the fire department responded to the 1800 block of Third Avenue Southwest to reports of a dumpster fire at 9:03 p.m. Friday.
Police contacted the homeowner and he said he recently cleaned out the ashes from the fireplace, but had let them sit for a week before putting them in the dumpster, Police Chief Brian Krueger said.
Krueger said the ashes may have been warm enough to start the fire, though the cause is unknown at this time. The fire melted a part of the siding on the southwest corner of the garage.
