Start the weekend off with pancakes. The Lions Pancake Feed is back to help plump you up and curb that winter chill. The weekend also brings a fundraiser to help the fight against cancer, some time in nature and even robots. This weekend brings something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
1. 57th annual Pancake Day
7 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, First United Methodist Church
The Austin Noon Lions Club will sell pancakes to help others “see and hear.” There will be pancakes, French toast and sausage. Adults cost $6, and ages 6 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from any member of the Noon Lions. This event is sponsored by the Austin Noon Lions Club.
2. Defensive Driving Class
9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Mower County Senior Center
This defensive driving class is a refresher course needed for the 10 percent discount on an insurance premium. The class is $16 for members and $19 for non-members. For more information, call 507-433-2370.
3. Lyle Area Cancer Auction
6 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Saturday Lyle American Legion and the adjoining Lyle maintenance building
A year after raising a record $230,000 and surpassing the $2 million mark overall through 36 years, Lyle Area Cancer will cap another busy year of fundraising to stamp out cancer with the 37th annual auction this Friday and Saturday. The auction will be held in the Lyle American Legion and the adjoining Lyle maintenance building. This year’s auction starts at 6 p.m. Friday and will continue until around midnight or 1 a.m. The auction resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday and runs until the last item sells, typically between 1 and 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
4. VEX Robotics Tournament
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Austin High School
Get ready to rumble with robots this weekend! Teams will compete in games to see who is the best in several categories. This tournament will be a qualifying tournament for the Dream It. Do It. Minnesota State VEX Robotics Tournament. For more information, call 507-437-4563.
