Boys hockey: Packers blank Winhawks

The Austin boys hockey team won its fifth game in six contests as it blanked Winona (0-15 overall, 0-13 Big Nine) 6-0 on the road Tuesday.
Freshman Ryan Flanders stopped 14 shots to get the shutout in his first career start in net for the Packers (5-7-1 overall, 3-6 Big Nine). Bryar Flanders and Isaac Arnold each scored two goals for Austin and Jace Greenman had four assists.
“We’ve been playing real well lately and I feel like we can play with anybody in the Big Nine,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “We’re looking forward to playing Mayo Thursday and hopefully we can make it a good game.”
Brayden Merrit and Alex Ciola each had one goal for the Packers, Jason Stoulil and Kory Potach had two assists and Evan McAlister had one assist.
