Austin residents came together Saturday to eat, toss bean bags and raise money to fight cancer.
Hoot & Ole’s Smittys Tavern hosted its annual Bean Bag Tourney and Old Fashioned Hotdish Feed.
The weather was partly cloudy with some sun trying peak through and a high of 19 degrees, but that didn’t stop 15 teams of two tossing bean bags. Many others were warming up inside with hot dish.
Jeremy “Ole” Olson, co-owner of Hoot & Ole’s, said he wished it was a little bit colder for the tournament.
“It’s January and more fun to do it outside,” Olson said. “It’s our last kick to try to get fundraising for the polar plunge next weekend.”
All money raised will go to Paint the Town Pink through the Dutchtown Jumpers Polar Plunge team, which raised about $10,000 in 2015 to be the plunge team. This year’s plunge is Jan. 30 on East Side Lake.
Olson hoped this year’s bean bag tournament would raise about $12,000.
