Maxine Beatrice Ruud was born Nov. 3, 1918, to James and Erna (Schroeder) Ruud. She grew up and attended school in the Spring Valley area, graduating from Rose Creek High School. After high school, Maxine worked at Woolworth’s in Austin. She married Merlin Beadle in 1939. Shortly after Merlin arrived home from WWII, he died in a car accident, leaving behind his wife and three small children. On May 8, 1949, Maxine married Sydney R. DeBoer in Spring Valley. They had two children. He passed away in October 1958. After the children were grown, Maxine worked at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin as a dietary aide. In her leisure time, Maxine enjoyed scrapbooking and was an avid crossword puzzle solver. She also spent time gardening, crocheting, and canning fruits and vegetables. Maxine was an expert on being frugal. Staying close to her family was the most important thing to her.
