Agnes Olson

Agnes Olson

Agnes was born March 6, 1914, in Grand Meadow to Albert and Christine (Nelson) Peterson. After the death of her mother, Agnes was raised by an aunt and uncle in North Dakota until returning to Grand Meadow when she was a freshmen in high school.  While in school she was a member of the Grand Meadow girls basketball team that went undefeated for several seasons. She graduated in 1932. In the fall of 1934, she was united in marriage to Halbert “Edward” Olson in Grand Meadow where they made their home. In 1943, they purchased the home where Agnes lived until 2012 when she moved to the Grand Meadow Assisted living apartments. Edward died in April of 1945 while serving in the Army during WWII. After the death of her husband, Agnes devoted her life to raising her five boys: Francis, Keith, Truman, Pete and David, and they in turn gave her her beautiful gray hair. She worked for a time at the Grand Meadow High School in the cafeteria and also volunteered as the librarian for the Grand Meadow Public Library. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and especially gardening, raising a large garden until moving in 2012.

She is survived by sons: Francis (Audrey) Olson of Stewartville, Minnesota, Truman (Donna) Olson, and Pete (Arlene) Olson both of Grand Meadow, and David (Carol) Olson of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; and a daughter-in-law Gloria Olson of Grand Meadow; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
