EDINA — Dr. Paul C. Tompach, an Edina dentist whose teenage patient died after oral surgery last summer, has had his license suspended by Minnesota’s dental board.
Sydney Michele Galleger died in June, six days after seeing Tompach at Edina Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to have her wisdom teeth pulled.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said the 17-year-old went into cardiac arrest during the procedure. The report said the cause is undetermined but the contributing role of medication administered during surgery could not be ruled out.
In temporarily suspending his license, the Minnesota Board of Dentistry said Tompach failed to appropriately manage a medical emergency, and let two assistants and an intern perform tasks that exceeded their legal scope of practice.
Tompach could not be reached for comment.
