MINNEAPOLIS — A federal judge has ruled in favor of a St. Paul landlord sued for violating the federal disabilities act and against an attorney and disabilities organization that has filed more than 100 similar lawsuits.
The ruling against Disability Support Alliance and its attorney, Paul Hansmeier, says they must pay a portion of the litigation costs for the landlord, Heartwood Enterprises. The alliance sued Heartwood over an office building that didn’t have a ramp to its front door. The judge said the alliance didn’t show there was a violation of the law.
The Star Tribune reports Hansmeier faces disbarment or suspension from the state board that investigates lawyer ethics complaints because of his behavior in other lawsuits. A judge recently ordered liquidation of Hansmeier’s assets after finding that the attorney filed for bankruptcy to impede his creditors.
