The Austin girls tennis team won two out of its three matches at the Austin Invite Saturday at Paulson and Ellis tennis courts.

In the first match Austin (4-1 overall) handily defeated Winona Cotter 6-1, then they lost to Andover 4-3 and beat New Ulm 6-1. 

Andover returned nine girls from last year’s team and added a tremendous No. 1 singles player.

A highlight of the New Ulm match was a hard fought victory for the No. 2 doubles team of Kira Potach and Sam Brucker, who avoided another super tiebreaker by winning a regular tiebreaker to close out the second set. Brucker and Potach did have to go to a super tiebreaker in the match with Andover which they won 10-8. They closed out the day 3-0 as did Kathryn Gavin at No. 2 singles to lead Austin on the day.
