WASHINGTON, D.C. — Jim Kellogg, a member of the American Legion from Taopi, was in Washington D.C., recently lobbying for issues that affect American war veterans and the military.

Kellogg, Minnesota Department commander of The American Legion, was part of a delegation of 30 Minnesotans in Washington, D.C.

The delegation met with nearly every Minnesota representative and senator, urging an agenda of veterans programs that Congress will be dealing with in the future.

Included in the lobbying efforts were:

•Keep the military strong. With the global war on terror continuing, America needs a well-funded Department of Defense.

•Ensure accountability in the VA. The Legion strongly supports the VA health system, but in order to restore trust and confidence in the agency, it must have the highest standards of accountability.

•Build a strong 21st Century VA health system. Veterans need to know that a robust system will be in place when they need it. The Legion opposes any privatization of VA care.

The delegation spent four days in Washington, D.C, and attended informational sessions on critical issues. There are 80,000 members about 560 posts in the Minnesota American Legion.
