Dancers take home awards from state competition

Bridget’s Dance Conservatory competed at the Applause Dance Competition March 18-20 at Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis.

More than 20 other dance studio’s attended the event. The dancers competed in ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical categories. Bridget’s dancers took home several top honors.

“The dancers practice for several months preparing for these competitions and work extremely hard. It is very exciting to see their hard work pay off,” owner Bridget Halvorson said in a press release.

The senior company tap and jazz groups both earned platinum awards and all received second place overall top scores for teen large and small groups.

The lyrical group “St. Jude” earned a platinum award and second place overall for senior small groups. Senior company dancers are: Madison Klein, Chase Peterson, Carma Sheehan, Salma Masood, Paige Leibeg, Victoria Ryg, Alex Jovaag, Kylie Poshusta, Emily Toland, Tehya Kvam and Emily Eich, Berghyn Hull and Madison Hasley.

The lyrical group “Try” earned a platinum award and 10th place overall for teen large groups. Junior company jazz and tap groups both earned platinum awards. Junior company dancers are: Taylor Johnson, Ava Jovaag, Payton Leibeg, Bianca Angell, Rachael Riley, Chloe Jenkins, Mary Eich, Rachel Toland, Kira Halvorson, Rachel Danielson and Kylie Nienow. The petite company jazz group earned a platinum award. Petite company dancers are: Xinyu Wang, Molly Hansen, Emily Hansen, Carly Nelson, Jenna Hetzel, Jenna Klocke, Cassidy Miller and Gabriella Wang. All of the companies received scholarships to attend workshop in New York City.

Dancers also competed with several solos. Madison Klein lyrical solo earned a double platinum award and second place overall score for senior division. Madison Klein’s jazz solo earned a double platinum award and top five overall score. Carma Sheehan’s jazz solo earned a platinum award and 8th place overall for the senior division. Chase Peterson’s lyrical solo earned a double platinum award, 1st place overall score for teen division and a judges choice award for outstanding commitment. Paige Leibeg’s lyrical solo earned a platinum award and 12th place overall score for teen division. Salma Masood’s lyrical solo earned a platinum award and 13th place overall for teen division. Alex Jovaag’s jazz solo earned a platinum award and a judges choice award for best flexibility. Alyssa Abrego’s lyrical solo earned a platinum award and 12th place overall for senior division. Tehya Kvam’s lyrical solo earned a platinum award and a scholarship. Taylor Johnson’s tap solo earned a platinum award. Bianca Angell’s lyrical solo earned a platinum award. Rachael Riley’s lyrical solo earned a high gold award. Victoria Ryg’s lyrical solo earned a high gold award. Jenna Hetzel’s tap solo earned a platinum award and 5th place overall for Petite division. Kira Halvorson’s jazz solo earned a platinum award. Rachel Danielson’s tap solo earned a high gold award. Xinyu Wang’s ballet solo earned a platinum award.

Chase Peterson and Paige Leibeg’s lyrical duet earned a platinum award and seond place overall for teen division. Mary Eich and Chloe Jenkins lyrical duet earned a high gold award. Salma Masood and Kylie Poshusta’s jazz duet earned a platinum award and third place overall for teen division. Emily Hansen, Molly Hansen and Carly Nelson’s jazz trio earned a platinum award and 1st place overall for the junior division.

Bridget’s dancers’ next competitions are April 13-17 and May 20-22 in the metro area.
