The Austin Area Commission for the Arts is moving its regular comedy show to the Austin ArtWorks Center.
The AACA announced its annual spring comedy show will move to the Austin ArtWorks Center, where it will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Past comedy shows had been held at the Historic Paramount Theatre, but AACA Executive Director Jennie Knoebel said the more intimate feel of the ArtWorks Center will give more of a comedy club vibe.
βIt might be something that if it goes well at the art center, we may be able to do that on a more regular basis,β she said.
Benny Quash will return as the headliner after he performed at the Paramount last March. He aims for simple-sounding jokes that will leave audiences thinking an hour or two later. His humor highlights items from everyday life.
Rochester-based comedian and co-organizerJeff Larson will also be back, along with Eric Peter DeWolff and Julie Bane.
DeWolff uses his experiences as an Air Force Veteran, family man, casino floor manager and security officer in his comedy.
Bane brings a Midwestern, girl-next-door likability make her a favorite anywhere she has performed, including the Women in Comedy Festival, LaughFest and the Green Gravel Festival.
She touches on funny and ridiculous situations, from a cross country road trip to getting accepted into a college to which she never applied.
Tickets are $10 in advance at www.austinareaarts.org/events/2016/5/6/comedy-night, over the phone at 507-434-0934 and at the Austin ArtWorks Center, which is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
