Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May.

Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War.

By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.

Many of us have strong traditions during this holiday. Some traditions may include flowers placed at the cemetery, attending a ceremony or just gathering with friends and family to have a picnic.

Whatever your tradition, remember those who have served for our freedom. We hope you have a fun and safe Memorial day. The senior center will be closed on Monday, May 30 so we might spend time with our families.

We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday we are having hamburger stroganoff for only $2.
