There’s more work to be done in the Minnesota House of Representatives and one representative wants to continue her work.

District 27B Rep. Jeanne Poppe, DFL-Austin, filed last week to seek her seventh term.

“I have been a strong advocate for the people of district,” Poppe said. “I value what the needs are and believe i have more work to do and would like to continue to do that on behalf of the people.”

Poppe would like to continue working on transportation funding, as the legislature did not pass a transportation plan to address growing infrastructure needs such as roads and bridges in greater Minnesota.

“We need to develop a long-term transportation plan and invest in that,” Poppe said. “It needs to be a sustainable plan.”

She added education was also another issue to continue working on and that Minnesota is on the higher end of student debt and a high cost of tuition.

“We have to continue to see how we can help,” Poppe said. “We can’t burden them to where they can’t be good taxpayers.”

Poppe serves on five committees in the House, including Agriculture Finance, where she is the DFL Lead; Agriculture Policy; Capital Investment; Environment and Natural Resources Policy & Finance; and Ways and Means.

She said she appreciates representing the district.

“It has been my honor to serve in the Minnesota Legislature for the past twelve years,” Poppe said in a statement. “I hold with high regard the responsibility of listening to constituents, educating myself about the issues, advocating on behalf of our district, and making sound decisions to improve the lives of residents of District 27B.”

Poppe, who was first elected in 2004, works as a counselor at Riverland Community College.
