Austin Parks and Rec: Police plan fundraiser for K-9 unit on June 20

The Austin Police Department is planning a fundraiser for its K-9 unit at the Veteran’s Pavilion at Bandshell Park from 4 to 7 p.m. with K-9 demonstrations at 5 and 6 p.m. on June 20.
They will have hot dogs and put on a K-9 demo for the public, Parks and Rec Director Kim Underwood said.
All funds raised will go into the K-9 program.
More than Pink Fun Run
The Parks and Rec Board passed a unanimous motion Wednesday to grant the use of Todd Park’s large pavilion free of charge on Thursday, Aug. 18 for a 5K, “More than Pink Fun Run,” for girls grades 3 through 6.
The request came from Teri Wermager, community education coordinator.
Parks and Rec donates five skate passes to Mower Refreshed event
The Parks and Rec Board passed an unanimous motion to grant the Mower Refreshed Healthy Families event the use of the swimming pool parking lot and the donation of five public skate passes to the event.
Mower County Fair stage set
The stage for entertainers at the Mower County Fair is set for this summer.
The Parks and Rec Board passed a unanimous motion at their meeting Wednesday evening to place their stage in the beer garden during the week of the fair.
They will also store it there at the end of the day when the events are over, Underwood said.
Spruce up skate park event planned for July 11
Austin’s skate park could see some renewal this summer with an event that will spruce up the park.
Underwood said John Gould and Inke Fernandez would like to host the event.
The event would also be a fundraiser and to make sure the kids feel safe when they are in the park. Fernandez would also like to paint a graffiti piece at the park.
The board unanimously passed a motion to pursue the event.
