Alma Eileen Frankson, 98 of Austin, Minnesota, died on Jan. 19, 2016, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota.

Alma was born June 18, 1917, on the family farm near Good Thunder, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Fredrick Wilhelm and Emma (Lohmann) Buettner. Alma graduated from the Mapleton, Minnesota High School and was a 1940 graduate from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota with a three year nursing degree. Alma was married to Thomas O. Frankson on Aug. 10, 1942, at Mapleton. She worked as a registered nurse for many years at St. Olaf Hospital, in Austin, Minnesota.

Alma was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in UMW circles and the church couple’s club. The Frankson’s were also member of a square dance club. Alma loved reading and doing crossword puzzles, she was also an avid gardener. She also like to sew and do embroidery and crewel stitchery.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Marlene Frankson, Austin, Minnesota; daughter, Jan Van Wyngarden, Burnsville, Minnesota; grandchildren, Paul (Jackie) Frankson, Athens, Georgia, Susan Frankson, Aurora, Illinois, Mary (Tim) Elliott, Aurora, Illinois; great grandchildren, Toby Elliott and Sydney Elliott, nieces and nephews.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, a brother Vernon Buettner and sisters Dorothy Buettner and Lucille Christian.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the service. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
