Wescott Athletic Complex is going to see some construction work for the second straight summer.
Austin Public Schools approved a $350,572.50 bid from Ulland Brothers Inc. Monday to add black top to the parking lot west of Art Hass Stadium by the water tower, and the lot will extend a bit more to the north, which will move the field immediately north of the parking lot a bit.
The lot is where most people parked when using the seasonal dome that debuted over the winter on Art Hass.
Plans also call to complete the plaza area between the concessions and the football stadium. The plan is to also add some picnic tables.
The project is a continuation of the work completed last summer in partnership with the Hormel Foundation. Last year, the district added the dome as part of a $5.2 million project project that also added artificial turf to Art Hass Field and Larry Gilbertson Track and Field. The project was completed in partnership with Vision 2020 and The Hormel Foundation.
Last year, trucks and equipment tore up the grass a bit when the dome went up over Art Hass, but Finance Director Mark Stotts said this work should prevent that from happening in the future.
Reinforced concrete will be put in the plaza areas, and the parking lot will be blacktop.
