Blooming Prairie junior Taylor Christianson had a strong showing at the first day of the Minnesota Class A state golf meet in Becker Tuesday.
Christianson shot an 81, which is good for fourth place after the first round of play. Christianson’s score is three strokes behind Abby Herding of Westbrook-Walnut Grove and Sophie Gray of Legacy Christian Academy, who are tied for first with a 78.
“Hopefully playing against players of that caliber will allow her to raise her level of play,” BP co-head coach Cory Hendrickson said.
The Blooming Prairie boys golf team, which is playing in its first state meet in school history, had play suspended due to weather as just three of their golfers finished up on Tuesday.
Jon Hatch shot an 85 for BP, Jake Ressler shot an 88, and Ethan Strunk shot a 91.
“The boys feel confident after day one,” Hendrickson said. “I think that they proved that they belong in this tournament and they can play with this level of competition.”
Christianson will tee off second round play at 8:06 a.m. Wednesday and the BP boys will resume play 7 a.m. Wednesday.
