Austin man receives credit for time served in AL sex sting

An Austin man charged in connection with a sex trafficking sting conducted last month in Albert Lea received credit for time served Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.
Jorge Sanchez-Ramirez, 35, was sentenced after pleading guilty to patronizing prostitution, a misdemeanor.
Sanchez-Ramirez was sentenced to 35 days in jail and given credit for 35 days served.
Sanchez-Ramirez was arrested in a sting conducted by the Albert Lea Police Department, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Plymouth Police Department as part of law enforcement efforts to combat human trafficking.
Sanchez-Ramirez and four other men were arrested after reportedly responding to advertisements placed online by police and making payment.
Others arrested in the sting were the following:
•Timothy Allen Hellman, 51, of Albert Lea
•Sharnaye Latrice Scroggins, 26, of Austin
•Nikita Marie Finley, 26, of Claremont
•Gregory Russell Bass, 55, of Mason City, Iowa
•Cody William Embrock, 22, of Rochester
•Uday Kumar Thakella, 27, of Rochester
Hellman, Bass, Embrock and Thakella each face one count of patronizing prostitution in a public place and are scheduled to make their first appearances in Freeborn County District Court June 30.
Officers responded to advertisements placed by Scroggins and Finley. The women reportedly came to Albert Lea and were arrested.
Scroggins and Finley have not been charged in connection with the incident. Possible charges are under review by the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office.
