How would you like to personally meet members of The Band Perry?

All you have to do is purchase a raffle ticket from one of the participating organizations and then be one of 40 people randomly chosen to attend.

The Hormel Historic Home is fortunate to be one of the sites that will benefit from the sale of the raffle tickets. Tickets are $5 and will be available for purchase until July 12 at the Hormel Historic Home, the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center, the Hormel Institute and at the Hormel Corporate Office in support of Project Spammy. Proceeds from the sales will benefit each location selling tickets so in purchasing one, or ten, you will be supporting worthy causes in our community.

The Meet and Greet event will be held at the Hormel Historic Home on Friday, July 29. We are thrilled to be a part of this special event that honors the man whose dream and hard work is being celebrated with the 125th Anniversary celebration.

Buying a raffle ticket is a gamble, but you won’t win if you don’t buy. George Hormel referred to his own experience as a gambler in “Three Men And A Business.”

He wrote that “although cards had been strictly taboo at home, salesmen on the move had to do something with their evenings, and I had resorted to poker. Shortly, I developed a certain skill and a great fondness for the game, neither of which do I recommend as an aid to fortune. In the beginning, I played penny-ante occasionally.  Soon I scorned to play for the modest sums which had seemed ample risk at first. Since I had what is known as ‘card sense,’ I sometimes won sizable stakes, but as time went on my winnings joined my losses, as such bonanzas have a way of doing. I resolved to quit.”

Through first-hand experience he knew the risks of poker and eventually considered himself free of the activity.  “As a onetime — and cured — poker player, I had come to distrust gambling in any form. It seemed to me more insidiously to destroy judgment and character than any other folly.”

Even though we are asking you to take a chance and gamble by buying a raffle ticket, I don’t think George would object this time.  The proceeds will benefit several organizations that he would likely be supporting himself.  Take a chance and stop in to one of the participating organizations today to purchase your tickets.  Meeting the internationally renowned members of The Band Perry is worth the risk.

Free garden concert. Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy our lovely garden while listening to fantastic local musicians. If weather is inclement, the concert will happen inside the banquet area.
