Austin ready to unveil 1st Pillars of the City picks

Austin is about to recognize five people who helped shape the community.
The Pillars of the City Committee will hold its inaugural unveiling ceremony in conjunction with Freedom Fest at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Band Shell Park.
Five individuals will be recognized with bronze plaques to be placed on the pillars on the North Main Street flood wall. The plaques will be on display through the afternoon for the public to view. Come and see who is going to be placed on the wall.
Nominations for 2017 are currently being accepted and forms are available at City Hall, the city’s website www.ci.austin.mn.us, the City’s Facebook page, the Austin Public Library, and the Austin ArtWorks Center and are due by Dec. 31 to City Hall.
The goal of the Pillars of the City program is to recognize individuals, past and present, who have made significant contributions to improving the quality of life in Austin related to growth, economic impact, health, education, culture, recreation, communications, business or scientific innovations.
