Omer Milo Wangen, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, July 22, 2016, at Our House Memory Care in Austin.
Omer was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Hayward, Minnesota, to Knute and Ellen Wangen. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and Colorado State University where he remained for two more years in Graduate School.
On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Geraldine Adair at Pauline Chapel, Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Omer worked at Hormel Foods Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Omer was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was also a very enthusiastic outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Geri; daughter, Karen Freese; sons, David (Lori), Paul (Robin); six grandchildren, Ellen (Aaron) Goslee, Jessica Freese, Jared Freese, Mat (Heather) Wangen, Katie (Zachary) Johnson, and Anthony Wangen; seven great grandchildren; sister, Elnora; nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Luther and Robert; sisters, Benetta and Gladys; son-in-law, Thomas Freese.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery with military honors.
