MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis officials are planning to announce new policing policies designed to help foster relationships with the public.
Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and Police Chief Janee Harteau will introduce four new policies Monday afternoon. The policies will be in line with a report from President Barack Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and will focus on building trust, community policing, training and education.
The Twin Cities area is still reeling from the death of Philando Castile. An officer in suburban St. Anthony shot and killed Castile in July during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights.
Castile’s girlfriend recorded the shooting’s immediate aftermath on Facebook. She said Castile was shot while reaching for his ID after telling Officer Jeronimo Yanez he was armed.
