MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities have euthanized a fox suspected of biting a woman near Lake Harriet in Minneapolis.
A city statement says the fox showed symptoms of rabies when animal control officers captured it Wednesday morning. The fox will be tested to determine whether it had the disease. Because there’s no way to make sure they got the right fox, the woman will undergo rabies shots regardless of the results.
The woman, 51-year-old Susan Obmoin, of Eagan, was taking her bike off a rack on her vehicle when she was bitten Tuesday afternoon. Police say it doesn’t appear she provoked the attack. She says she had to pry open the fox’s mouth fox to free herself.
Officials say the same fox apparently went after a jogger in the same area early Wednesday.
